Are Magazines, Web Sites Just "Ad Platforms"?

An update on this week's earlier post:
Here's a paragraph grabbed from Weaver's article:
Meredith's president of its publishing group, Jack Griffin, summed up the new direction of today's large magazine publishers when talking about his own company: "What we're doing is equipping Meredith to be a robust marketing-communications provider."

Hi Martha,

Sorry that I'm commenting so long after you've posted, but I just saw this post. Specifically, I think that IntelliTXT might be OK on user-generated content. I'm personally not a huge fan of the offering, as I get annoyed by the ad links in the middle of real content that I'm reading, but using myself as a focus group of one will not lead me to make good decisions. I've heard that some readers like it and think it's appealing. So, I'm not willing to discount the offering entirely.

Thanks for clarifying, Prescott. Although I wonder who finds those links appealing and why. Maybe only in a specific context -- i.e., they're looking to buy something?
